THE SYMPATHIES

These cinematic alt folk songs make up a quarter of The Sympathies’ new full-length album (2023) recorded in Austin with producer John Michael Schoepf (Roky Erickson) and an elegant crew of musicians — Grammy-winning drummer and percussionist John Speice (Black Pumas), Dan Creamer (Shakey Graves) on analog synth, piano and mellotron, Gary Newcomb (Bill Callahan) on pedal steel and Jaime Ospina (Grupo Fantasma) on the gaita, an indigenous flute. The artist offers one-stop clearance for licensing.

All songs were written and arranged by Tomás Pagán Motta, who also contributed all guitars and background vocals, except for the additional background vocals on "Always Care," provided by Will Courtney (Brothers and Sisters). Tomás is a musician, songwriter and singer with a background in reporting who has had success independently including songs featured on Public Radio's # 1 Songs (NPR) and the critically acclaimed soundtrack of Netflix's "Flaked," season two. He has songs spanning three albums that have achieved plays on KCRW and NPR affiliates as well as channels like Sirius XM’s “The Loft” and “In Spite of All The Danger.”
